The Picture That Says It All

Some people wonder what the purpose of life is, and although there are many opinions on the answer, I believe that a main purpose of life is to be happy and feel happiness in everything you do. Happiness ,joy, excitement, and energy are shown in this picture and I believe it is the most powerful image Free The Children could use to explain the base and foundation of their charity. The banner which reads " Free The Children Primary School" hangs in the background and exemplifies the purpose of the charity. The group of children running toward the camera have such emotions on their faces that it is hard to describe using words. The relief and joy in their eyes is wonderful. This image would be the most suited to promote Free The Children because it encompasses everything they stand for. Free The Children is the world's largest network of children helping children through education, with more than one million youth involved in the innovative education and development programs in 45 countries.

Miss Teen Prince George Reporting On Her Hometown (Guest Post-Assignment #2)

Miss Teen Prince George Reporting On Her Hometown (Guest Post-Assignment #2)

By Morgan Langer · July 18, 2009 · 0 Comments · 28 Views

Introduction

Born and raised in the diverse town of Prince George I, Morgan Langer, have become an expert on almost every aspect of the city. Having had the opportunity to travel and live in another country for a year, I realized how amazing, interesting, and special small towns/cities such as Prince George are. I currently live with my mother, father, and younger brother in one of the many new neighbourhoods around town. Prince George over the last 10 years has expaned more than ever before. Today I will be giving you the full 360 degree tour of the city's food, culture and history, attactions, and all of the little interesting facts an average person would not know about PG.

Please visit my blog (www.morganlanger.onsugar.com) for more interesting posts about me and my journey as Miss Teen Prince George World 2009.

Fabulous Foods

As I mentioned before Prince George is a very diverse town in every way, and this diversity most definitely applies to the cuisine found here. Personally I have three favorite restraunts that are all very different, authentic, and small. These are some of the best kept secrets in town. At the top of the list is Amigos Taco Shop. This restraunt has been in business for over 20 years and is still in the same location as it stared. Renovations have been done, but the feel service, and prices remain the same. Nothing can beat the chicken fajitas and frozen yogurt from this place. If I do recall correctly you can have the fajitas, a drink and a frozen yogurt for just under 12 dollars. Unbeatable! Please visit at 229 Brunswick Street Prince George, BC V2L 2B4 or call at (250) 562-8226

Quite different from the mexican restraunt above, the Meteora Travenra a greek restraunt is second on my list of favorites. I had always liked greek food, but when I went to this restraunt, I started to LOVE it. This place is humble and has a great atmosphere. The service is great and prices are reasonable. When you are in this restraunt it really feels like you could be in Greece, except when you look out the windows :). Owned and run by a greek family this restraunt is as authentic as it gets. Located at 1238 5th Avenue Prince George, BC V2L 3L2. Phone Number - (250) 564-3005 Check out this link to see for yourself

And last but NOT least is Tandoori. Tandoori is again on the other end of the spectrum for the style of restraunt. Only open for lunch and dinner only this location serves east indian food that is to die for. For me personally, I would recommend the butter chicken, with one vegetable samosa and a chai tea. You cant go wrong here no matter what you order. Found at 1063 5th Avenue Prince       George, BC V2L 5K7. Phone: (250) 561-0809

Brief History

The origins of Prince George can be traced to the fur trading post of Fort George, established in 1807 by Simon Fraser. The post was centered in the homeland of the Lheidli T'Enneh First Nation. Agricultural settlement around Fort George began about 1906 when it was realized that the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway would pass near the fur post. The railway arrived in 1914 and construction of the railway townsite commenced. The City of Prince George was incorporated on March 6, 1915.

Bored? Here are some attractions in Prince George that will make the time fly

The Two Rivers Art Gallery

Modern art fans will enjoy The Two Rivers Gallery, located in a beautiful building exhibiting a variety of art and exhibits from across Canada. (http://www.tworiversartgallery.com/) One can spend hours of time fascinated by the wonderful creations inside.

Noah's Ark

Noah's Ark is an exciting place for animal lovers and families to visit.  There are many different farm and exotic animals, winter sleigh rides and summer hayrides are available. When I was younger I would host every single one of my birthday parties out here and had a blast each time. They are very family friendly and I would highly recommend this to anyone with kids. Please visit this link for complete information on prices and availability.(www.noahsark.ca)

Events and Festivals

Traditional Pow Wow

The Prince George Native Friendship Centre hosts its Annual Traditional Pow Wow each summer at Carrie Jane Gray Park.  The Pow Wow features bannock (a deep-fried bread), traditional food and dances by men and women in customary clothing.  Dances to drumming include the Fancy Shawl (Butterfly Dance), the Men's Fancy Dance (the Courting Dance), the Grass Dancers (the Shape Changers), and the Jingle Dress dances. I have attended this festival for the past few years and it is quite an experience , it really shows some of the traditional culture in Prince George.

Farmer's Market

The Prince George Farmers' Market is an excellent place to buy and peruse local arts and crafts, produce, baked goods and other items across many outdoor booths during the summer.  The market, at the Prince George Courthouse (3rd Ave. and George St.) happens every Saturday from 8:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m. between May and October.  The indoor winter market is hosted every third Saturday of the month at St. Michael's Church (5th Ave. and Victoria) from mid-October until April. You can buy a wide variety of knitted crafts, jams, and vegetables along with much more at this event. This is a MUST.

University of Northern British Columbia

Charles Jago Northern Sports Center

The 145,150 square foot facility sits at the entrance of the UNBC campus. From general memberships to rental space for minor sport groups, to training opportunities for high-performance athletes, the NSC brings together fitness and sport development. This facility is complete with a full size indoor running track, and two soccer fields. I have trained at this building many times before and am very impressed at the services. Click on this link to view an information page on the center. (http://www.unbc.ca/nsc/)

Conclusion and Overview

Prince George in my eyes and many others is a very special town. The reasons that it is considered special to so many people are as follows: it has the small town feel but yet is growing very fast, it is the largest city in Northern British Columbia, it is where the Nechako and Fraser rivers meet, it is a very very generous community not only with money donations but also with time and care. The people of Prince George are very proud and love to help. You should really take the time to visit and enjoy the events and attractions listed above because, being born and raised in this ever changing town, I am a very qualified travel guide.

Once again thank you for tuning into my blog,

Fundraising Event for Free The Children

As the sun beat down on our backs and the gentle breeze blew our hair,my friends, family, and I worked together to create what eneded up being a very succesful car wash. This carwash was held in order to raise funds for Free The Children. The idea of having a car wash had been lingering in the back of my mind ever since we were told about the fundraising goal, but i never had time to fully execute my idea. Being so busy and running around trying to get things organized I had not had time to plan out a date for the car wash; i finally sat down , took a breather, and decieded that July 4th would be the perfect day to hold the event.

Alot of planning went into this project; I had to buy the supplies, make posters, find a location, gather a crew, and advertise. In the end it pulled together quite nicley. The cost of supplies was close to nothing seeing as how much money we raised, the posters were a blast to put together, even though the feathers were a little difficult, and the weather was perfect.

The day started at 11 am at the Mohawk Gas Station. We washed 45 cars in total and raised about 500 dollars. I think everyone had a really good time participating. Luckily my dad brought the power washing which sped things up nicely when we were busy. A lot of tired arms and some very distinct tan lines later, it was finally over. Six hours of car washing was a real workout.

I decided that the car wash should be "by donation" and that there would be no minimum donation because every little bit helps; some cars donated a generous 25 dollars, while others only four quarters.

Overall the expierence was great and the outcome even better. If I did it again I wouldnt change a thing besides the start time; I would start at 10 rather than 11. I wore my sash for some of the time, but decided that I should take it off so it didnt get wet. Every car that donated was informed about the Free The Children Charity (www.freethechildren.com) and told to visit the website.

I hope reading about this expierence gave you some ideas and inspiration.

Until later,

              Miss Teen Prince Geroge

Blog Assignment #1

Little Miss Morgan is an 18 week TV series focused on the life of a young girl trying to grow up and become a young woman in some very challenging circumstances. This show is targeted mainly towards pre-teen to teen girls because it will be dealing with all the problems associated with growing up; although the main target audience is teen girls, it is a suitable show for all ages because everyone can learn from the problems presented in the show. The series will help every one from mothers and fathers, to sisters and brothers, to better understand the reasonings behind some of the crazy things young girls do. This series is one that will jam pack alot of general issues and some uncommon problems of young girls into one show. It will show that even the worst situations can be turned into something better.

The three sponsors I would choose to fund the series would be P&G beinggirl.ca, The Yorkville Club, and Kitchen Orange. I would choose these three specific sponsors for various reasons. The main reason would be because not only could the real cast and crew use the services and products provided but also, the Little Miss Morgan Series could advertise and use the products regularly on the show.

Sponsor #1- P&G beinggirl.ca (www.beinggirl.ca)

When I was researching the sponsors to select the three most suitable, I was having trouble deciding. As I slowly browsed the websites and started thinking up ideas, I realized that i had already been perusing the material for over 45 minutes, now when one first reads this, they may think "45 minutes is not that long" but the catch is that i had only looked at two of the eighteen websites. I had become so entranced in the P&G beinggirl.ca website that the time flew by. It was at that moment i realized that www.beinggirl.ca had to be one of my sponsors. I chose them because they are a website where girls can go and ask questions about anything they like; boys, personal issues, health, and friends are some examples of the topics on the website. This website, I am sure, is a very important resource to many girls across Canada becasue not everyone feels comfortable talking to their parents or friends about personal problems. This site provides girls with a safe environment to ask and find out stuff that they have always wanted to know, but never had the courage to ask. It will make a wonderful sponsor on a show directed towards young girls.

Sponsor #2- The Yorkville Club (www.theyorkvilleclub.com)

Along with the problem solving techniques that the show will provide, another one of my goals as the producer is to promote a healthy lifestyle. The Yorkville Club is the perfect sponsor to do that. Again the actual cast and crew of the show will be able to utilize the gym and a goo potion of the episodes will take place there, thus creating a win-win situation. Morgan who is the main character of the show has an issue with self esteem. By combining the two sponsors of www.beinggirl.ca and www.theyorkvilleclub.com the series will be able to gradually help Morgan with her self confidence, body image, and over all creating a healthy life style. Morgan will post questions about body image and eating disorders on www.beinggirl.ca and she will get a reply that explains that living a exercising and eating right can do boost self confidence and give you a fit body. She is recommended to The Yorkville Club to begin the process.

Sponsor #3- Kitchen Orange (www.shopkitchenorange.ca)

Continuing with the theme of being a young girl and going through the everyday struggles I felt this TV show would not be complete without a clothing sponsor. Morgan will have to make many desicions throughout the series and the ever so important decision that every girl has to make of "What should I wear?" will most deffinetly be one of them. Kitchen Orange again will be used by both the production staff and in the show. The Kitchen Orange will really bring the whole show together in the fact that she will go to the gym so she can feel comfortable in the clothes she didn't before; these clothes will be from Kitchen Orange. The struggle of finding a job, something majority goes through, will also bring her the funds to purchase the clothing. Kitchen Orange will receive great advertising from the show.

General Overview

My TV show focuses on the generally difficult parts of life for a young girl, with focus on things such as health, parents, and relationships. Little Miss Morgan is a girl that has everything going wrong for her and throughout the series she overcomes these problems and develops into an accomplished young lady. She is very self conscience about her body and looks, her parents are going through a divorce, and her love life is more than complicated, just to name a few of the issues. I believe that this show will be a major hit for people of all ages. The young will enjoy watching it because even though it is a very dramatic and interesting show, it is still a sort of "learning guide" for them. Another goal of the show is to have a young person watch it and walk away knowing something that they did not before. The older will enjoy it just as much, because it will remind them of when they were young and give them insight on todays young culture. This show will be a hit and I hope you enjoy watching.

Always Active, Miss Teen Prince George Participates in Relay For Life

Hello Everyone,

This past Friday I took part in the annual Relay For Life. I have been participating in this event for the past 6 years and enjoy it very much. Unfortunately I was unable to take any photos with my sash and crown but I hope to do that during the next run. This event is a celebration of survivors, a memorial for loved ones lost, and an encouragement for people currently battling the disease. If you have not participated in this event or are unaware of what it is, I encourage evryone to visit the website http://convio.cancer.ca/site/PageServer?pagename=RFL_CAN_home_accueil&s_locale=en_ca and check out the run closest to you. Cancer is a disease that has personally touched the lives of many people and effects them greatly. I believe that one day there will be a cure, and we cannot give up hope.

Until Next Time,

Morgan
